How Toka works.

Toka is an agentic secondhand marketplace: an app where AI does the tedious parts of buying and selling locally. It drafts your listing from a few photos, answers buyer questions, screens out bots and scammers, and handles the back-and-forth, so you get a great transaction instead of a second job.

Free to download, free to browse, and free to sell. Toka charges a service fee on each sale, and it's always shown in the buyer's total before they pay. Sellers receive exactly the payout they set. No listing fees, no subscription.

The seller sets the payout they want and receives it in full. The buyer sees one all-in price that already includes Toka's service fee and card processing. Toka's fee is tiered on the seller's payout: 8% on the first $100, 5% on the part from $100 to $500, and 3% on anything above $500, with a $3 minimum. You can tap the price in the app for the exact split.

Right now Toka is Melbourne first, because a local marketplace only works when there's actually good stuff near you. We're expanding. If you're outside Melbourne you can still look around, and you'll be near the front of the queue when we open your area.

You need to be in Australia and at least 16 to have an account, browse listings and chat with Toka. To actually buy or sell you need to be 18 or over, partly because our payment provider Stripe requires anyone receiving money to be at least 18.

When you commit to an item, Toka places a temporary hold on your card for the total. You're not charged yet. You're only charged when you enter your handover code at pickup or delivery, confirming you've received the item. If the deal doesn't go ahead, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

Your payment is held securely by Stripe until handover. Nothing leaves your account until you've seen the item in person and confirmed you've got it.

No, there's no haggling on Toka. The seller sets the payout they want, and you see one all-in price. That price is the price. No lowball messages, no back-and-forth, no "what's your best price?".

Each listing is pickup, delivery, or both, and the seller chooses. Delivery means the seller brings it to you; pickup means you collect it. Either way it's an in-person handover, and when delivery is offered the seller's charge is included in your total. No couriers, no postage.

Don't hand over your code. Until it's entered you haven't paid, so your money's safe. Raise an issue in the app or email support@gettokaapp.com and we'll help sort it out.

No. Entering your handover code confirms you've inspected the item and accepted it as described, so there are no change-of-mind refunds. If you later decide you don't want it, you can easily relist it on Toka. Before you enter the code you're not charged at all.

Pretty much anything secondhand that you own and have the right to sell. Good usable condition, honest photos, and flag any flaws up front. There's a short list of things we don't take — see the next answer.

Three groups. Things that are illegal to sell, like weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vapes, and prescription medicines. Safety gear that only works once and can't be checked from a photo, like helmets, child car seats, climbing rope and life jackets. And things that can't be handed over in person with a code, like cars and anything needing registration, property, live animals, gift cards, tickets and digital accounts. Replicas must be clearly labelled as replicas.

Nothing, selling is free. You set the payout you want and you receive exactly that. Toka's fee is added on top for the buyer, so it never comes out of your pocket.

When your buyer confirms handover with their code, you've made the sale. The amount shows as pending income while the payment clears, usually within a few days, then moves into your earnings, ready to withdraw to your bank. Your first withdrawal can take up to 7 days while your bank settles the first transfer; after that, withdrawals land in about 2 days.

The stuff you'd rather not. For sellers, it turns your photos into a proper listing, helps with a price, and fends off the "is this still available?" brigade. For buyers, it helps you find the piece, answers your questions about it, and gets you through paying and collecting. It's AI-powered and occasionally wrong, so it isn't legal or financial advice — check anything that really matters.

On Facebook you answer "is this still available?" forty times, haggle with strangers, and hope whoever turns up isn't weird about it. On Toka the agent answers the buyers for you, the price is the price, your payment's secured before you meet, and your address stays private until a time's agreed. Same secondhand sofa, none of the admin, none of the ghosting, and not one cent of it goes towards Mark's next superyacht.

Keep all chat and payments inside Toka, and never send money outside the app. The classic marketplace scams work because the money and the item change hands at different moments; on Toka they don't — your payment is secured up front and only released when you enter your code, in person, after looking at the item. For the meet-up, pick somewhere public and well lit. Victoria Police also runs 21 Safer Exchange Sites at 24-hour police stations around Melbourne, with CCTV and lighting, and you can agree to meet at one.
